this past week i went with my sorority to chantilly, virginia (right outside of d.c.) for our national convention. what an experience. over 600 girls in one place, attending workshops, conducting business, reuiniting, connecting, and enjoying the national organization. what a time! who knew that sororities existed on such a scale. it was comforting and crazy to see so many girls with my letters on - girls i have never met, but who represent the group i am a part of every day. i guess i just never thought about these things. but i learned a lot from my sisters from across the country and it gets me excited about a new school year.
however, i can never reference greek life without this eerie feeling that someone reading has a bad taste in their mouth about greeks. i'm so sorry for this misconception. i did not join a sorority to be exclusive or to be a clique. i did it because it's fun. because my sisters genuinely care about one another, and because it's a way to reach out to girls who i would not ordinarily run into. it's one of the best parts of my college experience by far.
i have learned how to fully embrace people for who they are and what they are about. i have learned to work through annoyances and frustrations through working on the business side of my sorority. and i have learned what it is to be an unconditional friend and support and encourager to another human through the love that i have been shown.
it was quite a long week. a week away from the norm, but one which i do not regret. business sometimes is worthwhile and creates a sense of accomplishment and purpose. definitely a week to remember.
